whales
Both the reading and the listening discuss whether the humpback whales migrate with the help of their brain, star, and spy-hopping technique. The former argues that it uses those tools to migrate to the long-distance whether the latter contradict each and every point made by the reading.
First of all, the reading contends that the whale's brain develops a cognitive ability to use star mapping to journey the long distance. In contrast, the lecturer argues that there seems no real connection between intelligence and the ability to use the star to migrate since ducks who have a medium range of intelligence can also use the star to navigate long distances and it is inborn in duck rather than the intelligence.
Secondly, since the whales migrate in the straight line they must rely on some external objects or force to orientate them and it seems obvious that they use the star for these orientations. However, the lecture rebuts that, the biomagnetic brain of the whales helps them to use the earth's magnetic field to navigate the long-distance rather than the use of stars.
Finally, the author claims that the whales use the spy-hopping technique that is floating straight up to use the start navigating the long distance. On the other hand, the listening counters that, other marine animal like sharks also use spy-hopping techniques for hunting rather than traveling the long distance. Moreover, the whales do this during the daytime also where there is no stars to detect something to orientate them.
