It is difficult for teachers to be both popular (liked by
students) and effective in helping students in learning.
Give your reasons and specific examples.
No one can overlook the fact that teachers can be popular among students while they are so effective in teaching lessons. However, it can be difficult for teachers to handle both situation in most cases and also it may have some disadvantages. Were I asked to whether it is hard for teachers to be liked by students and be effective in teaching, I would rather say that it would be hard. Among conspicuous reasons, I will mention two of them in the following paragraphs.
To commence with, students, like other people, want to spend time with their friends while talking, joking and laughing. Because at this age, the main society they are involved in is school, they want to spend fun time there. If teacher make jokes or laugh with students, he or she will be popular among students. However, it may cause that they misunderstand that class and lesson are not important. So it can lead to not make the class serious and the teacher cannot be effective in this class. My personal experience is compelling evidence to elucidate this reason. When I was in high school, my physics teacher had a serious personality and no one in the class had dare to underestimate her lesson. Every student studied hard and we achieved high grades at the end of the year. Although ten years have passed, I can still remember physics she taught us. Had she not been this much serious, we would not have mastered physics.
Another subtle point that I should deem is the fact that in order to help students in learning, teacher should force students to study hard. In this case students may not like the teacher, even if it would be such a helpful method to enable them learn lessons. No one can cast a shadow of doubt that, being successful at school and passing the exams are inquired with hard working and studying intensively. It is all transparent that, the way teacher reacts to students who do not do their homework or pass the exam is a key factor to put the pressure on students to study. In addition, giving hard questions to students make them think deeply about lesson and result in help students in learning.
To make the long story short, we may draw the conclusion that being liked by students and helping them in learning is difficult. However, there are some teachers who are good at teaching and being popular. Teachers should stick to their duty which is helping students in learning lessons. Being popular among students is not as determining as teaching them lessons to help them be educated.

Better to have 5 paragraphs with 3 arguments. And try always support/against one side but compare two sides, like this:
para 1: introduction
para 2: reason 1. address both of the views presented for reason 1
para 3: reason 2. address both of the views presented for reason 2
para 4: reason 3. address both of the views presented for reason 3
para 5: conclusion.
So how to find out those reasons. There is a formula:
reasons == advantages or
reasons == disadvantages
for example, we can always apply 'save time', 'save/make money', 'find a job', 'make friends', 'get more information' as reasons to all essay/speaking topics.
or we can apply 'waste time', 'waste money', 'no job', 'make bad friends', 'get bad information' as reasons to all essay/speaking topics.
