The chart below shows the percentage of households in owned and rented accommodation in England and Wales between 1918 and 2011.
The Bar chart compares the proportion of families owning and paying house rents into countries between the years 1918 and 2011.
As can be clearly seen, there is an upward trend In owned houses as opposed in households on rent which showed a downward trend.
Firstly, families who owned accommodation represented highest in the year 2011, at almost 70%, and lowest with slightly above 20% in 1918. Also, it remained relatively constant over a decade from 1991 to 2001, at 68% and 69%. Moreover, there were fluctuations between 1981 and 2011.
Secondly, the ratio of occupants who paid house fees was at its peak at around 78% in 1918 and declined to slightly above 30% in 2001. Furthermore, in 1971 portion of house owners and tenants, we're the same at 50%. Finally, there were variations between 1918 and 1961.
