The bar chart shows the expansion of Indian restaurants in the UK in 55 years (from 1960 to 2015). Generally, the number of Indian restaurants in the UK expanded rapidly, from 500 restaurants in 1960 to over 9000 restaurants in 2015.
Indian cuisine didn’t has a good start at the race in the UK with only over 500 restaurants. However, since 1980 there was a surprisingly rising for Indian restaurant with over 3000 restaurants. From 1990 to 1997, there was the greatest increase, about 3000 restaurants appeared during this period. The highest number of Indian restaurant is in 2007 and 2009 (over 9000 restaurants). Since 2011, there was a slight decrease but the number has not changed much.
Overall, there is definite trend for Indian cuisine in the UK.
