Essay topics:

It is the best way to make road transport safer if vehicle drivers take the driving test each year. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It has been argued that contemporary driving test for vehicle drivers every year is the best way to have a safe road. While I agree that driving test is an effective way to make transport safe, there are various other steps that are useful.

On the one hand, there is no doubt that driving test could improve drivers’ skills and their awareness of following the transportation rules. Drivers who want to pass the driving test have to learn driving lessons, including road regulations, special signs and how to act correctly in a sudden accident, which are helpful to make the road safer. However, the yearly test is too frequent to take and would be bothering.

On the other hand, there are a variety of other methods can be used to improve the safety of road transport. Firstly, traffic penalties, such as small fines, license suspension and even imprisonment can act as a deterrent to drivers, prohibiting them from obeying the traffic rules. Secondly, it is also a great way to add some safeguard equipments in the road. For example, speed cameras and road bend deter people not driving too fast, while speed bumps and traffic signs can be added as warnings. What is more, governments can invest in better public transport systems so that more people will choose public transportation to go to work rather than driving themselves, which in return decrease the rate of traffic accidents.

In conclusion, while taking driving tests each year is helpful to make road transport safer, other effective ways can also achieve this goal.
