The graphs illustrate the differences in possessing some electrical appliances and the time doing house chores in families in one country over the preiod of 100 years from 1920 to 2019.
Overall, the number of electrical appliances onwed by households increased with the highest percentage seen in refrigerators and the lowest was washing machines while the amount of time spent on house chore declined over the whole period.
Over a period of 60 years from 1920 to 1980, the pecentage of refrigerators bought buy families rocketed from zero per cent in 1920 to 90 percent in 1960 and reached a peak at 100 percent 20 years later while the number of the vacuum cleaners sold to households gradually rose and that of washing machine fluctuated. From 1980 to the end of the period, there was a slight increase in the proportion of washing machines and the figure stopped at just over 70 per cent while the other two items hit the highest point and plateaued.
The whole period witnessed a gradual fall in the number of hours that families spent on house chores within one week. The figure fell rapidly from 50 hours to 20 hours per week over a 40 year period from 1920 to 1960, then slightly decreased to hit the lowest point at 10 hours per week at the end of the total period.
