The table below gives information on consumer spending on different items in five different countries in 2002.
The table compares the percentages of money spent on three different categories of products and services in five different countries in the year 2002.
It is clear that people in all five countries spent the highest proportion of money on food, drinks, and tobacco in 2002. By contrast, the least percentage of money went on leisure and education over the period shown.
In terms of food, drinks, and tobacco, consumer expenditure was noticeably higher in Turkey at 32.14% than in Ireland at almost 30%. The people of Turkey spent more money on leisure and education, at 4.30%. 9% of Ireland's consumer spending went on clothing and footwear.
On the other hand, Swedish people spent the least percentage of money spent on food/drinks/tobacco and clothing/footwear, at 15.77% and 5.40%, respectively. These figures were slightly higher for Spain, but Spanish people spent the least proportion of money on leisure and education, at around 2%.
