The line chart below shows the number of men and women that smoke cigarettes in Australia.

The line chart provides information about the total number of smokers in Australia between the 2 genders in a forty-year period. In general, this is a downward trend. The males had a tendency to decrease, whilst the females fluctuated over years.
In the start, with a quite high number, the total quantity of male cigarette smokers in Australia reached a trough of about 2,8 million people in 1995. Then it rose slightly and stopped with the number of 3 million in the last year - 2000.
In 1960, there was a total of 1 million women who smoked and then, moderately, it reached a peak of about over 3,3 million in 1975. After 5 years, this quantity remained unchanged in a five-year duration. In the rest of this forty-year period, it declined slowly and stopped at the total number of about 2 million.
Overall, it’s obvious that more men smoked in the past but subsequently, there was a remarkable drop, whereas female smokers seem to use more cigarettes then.
