Would you prefer to take courses taught by professors with whom you have already had other classes during your past years of study, or would you prefer to take courses with professors whose classes you have never taken before? Why?
Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer. Be sure to use your own words. Do not use memorized examples.
When students are required to register for classes for the next semester, usually do they need to make a choice-whether register for the class that is taught by familiar professor or the one taught by unfamiliar professor. From my perspective, as far as the study efficiency, getting along with professors and temporary refreshment are concerned, I prefer to take coursers presented by familiar professors.
First, choosing the professor who we know can make us study more effectively. As a matter of fact, different professors feature different teaching styles and methods, which requires students to take time to accommodate them. In this case, if students pick the courses taught by professor they know, hardly do they need to spend additional time to adapt their courses, which promote them to study as much knowledge as possible in the class. However, students may feel uncomfortable and uneasy when they are exposed to a unknown professor, which takes them time and energy to adapt and thus curbs their study efficiency. My personal experience can be a compelling example of this. The last time when I was asked to choose one course, I just chose the Art History taught by a widely recognizable professor who taught the class I had before. I was aware that this professor had a high requirement for students, asking students to preview the class and give a oral presentation about those previewed knowledge before the lecture. In this case, whenever I would attend his lecture, I would leave my part-time job and other projects aside, fully concentrating on the preview. Thus, I could understand what the professor taught in lecture easily and offered a well-organized presentation when I was targeted.
Second, students can feel free to get along with familiar professors. Since students have registered for the class given by the same professor before, it is easier for them to ask questions either during class or in office hours and they do not feel hesitant or shameful to share a puzzle. Meanwhile, professors themselves are allowed to have a better understanding of these students who register for their courses, knowing each students' personalities and thus how to offer suggestions or comfort them properly when they are stuck in a dilemma. Back to the Art History courses I took before, as I often raised questions to him in the former class named Impressionism, the professor knew that I was the student with high-esteem, which means that I preferred to explore the answers rather than get an answer directly. Thus, whenever I ask him about how an art form influence another one, he always simply provide me some clues about the characters of each art form, guiding me to find the way myself.
Granted, some may argue that taking courses taught by unknown professor can furnish students a sense of refreshment since his speaking style, teaching methods and course syllabus is different from the courses taken before, which might interest students. However, although students can feel refreshed initially, this fresh can easily fade away as the semester goes on.
In conclusion, I would give a priority to those courses given by known professors.
