The chart compares the usage charges for water per kiloliter and average household expenditure on water in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney in Australia in the year 2004.
There were greate disparities of usage charges per kiloliter of water among six cities in the table and in some cities, residents had to pay more for amount of water consumed above 125 Kls. It is also noticeable that Melbourne was the only city where household paid water bill less than $300 on average.
In Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, citizens paid $0.98, 0.84 and $0.78 for per Kls water used respectively, no matter how much water they consumed in total. By contrast, residents who lived in Adelaide and Perth only had to pay $0.42 per Kls if they consumed less than 125 Kls. However, for each additional Kls over 125 Kls, Adelaide's citizens had to pay $1 per Kls while Perth dwellers had to pay $1.5 per Kls.
In terms expenditure on waster, households in Perth paid most on average, at a average water bill of $332, which was $13, $18 and $20 larger than the figures for Sydney,Adelaide and Brisbane respectively. However, despite the middle level of unit water cost, Melbourne saw the lowest average water bill, just at $253 per family.
