From 1980 to 1990, the percentage of elderly people surfing the web doubled to 10%, while the figure for theater increased by 10%. However, the figure for reading decreased by 20%. In 1990, the elderly time spent reading was three times as high as surfing the web, with respective figures of 30% and 10%.
Between 1990 and 2010, the percentage of elderly people surfing the web became the highest after 1990. In addition, the elderly spent more time surfing the web than reading in their free time, at 50% and 45% respectively. By contrast, the figure for theater which was spent by elderly people stayed stable, reaching 40%.
