When choosing a job, salary is the most important consideration. To what extent do you agree or disagree
People have various considerations when choosing a job. Some people are of the opinion that money should be the most important factor to look out for while searching for a job. In this essay, I will give reasons and explanation why I completely disagree with this view.
Generally, the main reason people work is to earn enough money to take care of themselves and their family, thus, it seems natural that the take home is the most important factor to look out for In choosing an occupation. A community research in Nigeria found out that 60% of unemployed graduates are insisting on high-income jobs rather than low-paying jobs regardless of the incentives that may be involved. This is done out of the need to make enough money to manage their expenses.
While it is good to factor in wages when choosing an occupation, I believe it is not the most important thing to consider. Other important factors to consider include working hours, distance of workplace from home and interest in the type of job. Considering all these will lead to a more satisfying work-life balance. A situation where one earn much but is usually stressed as a result of long working hours will no doubt affect the individual and his family negatively. Hence, the need to check these important factors before considering any job.
To sum up, despite the fact that it is good to consider salary before taking up a job, I strongly believe there are more important factors to be considered before taking such decisions.
