Overall, there was an increase in the percentage of female students who chose computer science, physics, medicine, and law, with the most dramatic rise being seen in the figure for law, making it generally become the most popular course from 1975 onwards.
The share of female pupils on law’s course started at about 10 percent in 1970, after which it experienced a notable growth to around 95 percent in 2010, before a slight decrease in the same year and a final increase to just under 100 percent in 2015. Conversely, the figure for computer science increased from just over 30 percent in 1970 to hit a peak at 75 percent in 1990, followed by a progressive decline to under 40 percent at the end of the period.
Approximately 30 percent was the proportion of female students who had a course on physics in 1970, with a significant increase to peak at 85 percent in 2010 and leveling off towards 5 years later. Similarly, the figure for medicine rose from roughly 20 percent in the beginning of the period to 90 percent in 2010 and kept at this level until the end of the period.
