The chart below shows the total number of minutes (in billions) of telephone calls in the UK, divided into three categories, from 1995-2002.
The bar chart compares the amount of time spent on three types of telephone calls in the UK between 1995 and 2002.
It is clear that national and international calls using landlines and all mobile calls increased significantly in total of number of minutes. The amount of time spent on local calls using landlines in the UK went up and then fell to its original level.
In 1995, there were about 37 billion minutes of national and international calls using landlines, the figure for mobiles was the lowest, with only about 3 billion minutes. Over the following seven years, however, the amount of time that UK people used for all mobile calls increased to over 60 billion minutes, and a considerable rise can be seen in national and international call minutes, and this was around 15 times higher in 2002, at roughly 45 billion minutes.
Looking at the local calls using landlines, we can see that the amount of time increased from around 72 billion minutes in 1995 to its peak at 90 billion minutes in 1999, before decreasing to the same number in 2002 (72 billion minutes).
