gene technology

Essay topics:

gene technology

This was a newly technology that arose these years. The individuals who benefitted from it were in mounting numbers. Nevertheless, this technology existed the problem of ethnic and moral standard to a certain extent. Did it unlock pandora’s box or aladdin’s magic lamp?

It was claimed that the genetically modified human beings: twin girls whose dna he said he altered, noting that it is the world first one that a Chinese scientist had declared that he assisted in making it. it triggered off an enormous earthquake in the science field and set off a storm of public opinions. In detail, the twins’ genes had been edited, which enabled them to protect from HIV by birth. The bombshell scientific breakthrough, provided that verified, would represent the first genetically engineered humans. also, it might be said without fear of exaggerate that it would be a milestone in the history of science. And this finding could have symbolic implications for how we clung to the idea that whether the research of gene technology should be limited further or not.

More than 120 scholars from prestigious universities strongly condemned the research in a signed statement, saying it lacks effective ethics oversight and amounts to human experiments. us" style="margin: 0px; line-height: 150%; font-size: 12pt;">The opponents were right. Undoubtedly speaking, it was inevitable that this finding would run counter to the academic ethics and standards which was attributed to the unassured security of the project. If not permitted, this technology would disrupt everyone’s unique gene.

Everything is reflected in two aspects, so does the gene technology. gene technology also has its strengths: it can enhance the quality of the agricultural and sideline products. For instance, the peas’ shape and properties contain “not disease-resistant but short-stem plants” and “disease-resistant but high-stem ones”. By altering the expression of genes rather than their dna sequences, we can get newly and desirable strains of seeds. Moreover, gene technology helps produce cloned animal for reaping tangible benefits. Take Dolly the Sheep, the first cloned animal, for example. In 1996, scientists in England pulled it off by using nuclear transfer. They can use cloned animals to produce the pharmaceutical protein, whose cost is cheaper than that of bioengineering drugs produced by fermentation technology. Additionally, it may transform human’s lifestyles and prompt the global economy to progress at an exceedingly fast speed. Just as the McKinsey Company predicts that, next generation genome will be one of the twelve disruptive technologies in the near future.

Gene technology has been the cutting edge of the science and the peak of the biology for a long time, whose road leads to the unknown future. we may step into the abyss when a careless behavior happens. gene editing is like pandora’s box. Once opened, no one can guarantee the consequences. but we need not panic over the gene editing, let alone rage by ignorance. we should acquire more about technology science and measure the world with our knowledge to broaden our perspectives on the gene technology.

All in all, gene technology is a two-edged weapon. Therefore, it is hard to judge that gene editing for infant open pandora’s box or aladdin’s magic lamp. gene technology itself is amoral. it can either serve or hurt us. how we use it depends on ourselves. With guarding ourselves from the urge to abuse excessive power, we need to develop its strengths and discard its weaknesses as far as possible.
