A light breeze was blowing and the sun was shining. My friend Martin and I were having so much fun at the lake near our cabin. We had been skating for over one hour. At first, I was confused with the movements as walking on ice skate blades was quite hard for a newbie like me, while Martin made everything look as easy as pie. But for his help, I could not have stood still. Then, when we were chattering about the schoolwork, I decided to show Martin what I had seen on the Internet. I took a deep breath and did a hop, then I spun around and spread my arms. “Tada!” - I said. Immediately, I heard a crunching sound below my feet. The surface crackled, and I started to tremble with fear.&nbsp;</span></p><br><p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt;"><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: &quot;Times New Roman&quot;; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); background-color: transparent; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; vertical-align: baseline;">“Martin, I…”</span></p><br><p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt;"><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: &quot;Times New Roman&quot;; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); background-color: transparent; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; vertical-align: baseline;">Suddenly, the ice cracked, and I fell in the icy-cold water.&nbsp;</span></p><br><p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt;"><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: &quot;Times New Roman&quot;; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); background-color: transparent; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; vertical-align: baseline;">“Aaaaa!” I screamed.</span></p><br><p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt;"><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: &quot;Times New Roman&quot;; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); background-color: transparent; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; vertical-align: baseline;">I could feel the bitter cold down there, and it still gives me goosebumps whenever I flash back to this memory. Then, Martin rapidly took off his scarf and threw it to me.&nbsp;</span></p><br><p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt;"><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: &quot;Times New Roman&quot;; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); background-color: transparent; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; vertical-align: baseline;">“Grab it!” he shouted.</span></p><br><p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt;"><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: &quot;Times New Roman&quot;; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); background-color: transparent; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; vertical-align: baseline;">I clutched at the scarf and Martin pulled me out of the lake. He ground his teeth and even bent his knees, then tried his best to save me from drowning. It was a tug of war between Martin and the deep, cold water, and of course, I was the rope. Luckily, Martin won the game, which meant that I got out of the hole safely. As soon as I stood up, I shivered and shook like a leaf because of the low temperature. Martin ran into our cabin and came out with a blanket. Then he set up the chairs for us to sit down, and called the emergency services right away. He kept asking me if I was good while we were waiting for the rescuers. Eventually, I was taken to the hospital and the nurses took care of me. I’m so happy that I’m still alive and I am grateful for having a good friend like Martin in my life.</span></p><div><span style="font-size: 14pt; font-family: &quot;Times New Roman&quot;; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); background-color: transparent; font-variant-numeric: normal; font-variant-east-asian: normal; vertical-align: baseline;"><br></span></div></span>
