The Quran …The purifier of scientific understanding and speculations

“I call on my Lord alone and I don’t associate anyone with Him.” (Al-Quran 12:21)
Science has become the yardstick of many and many inquisite minds get satiated only at the hands of scientific confirmations. Scientific disciplines like Material Sciences, Life-Sciences and Information Sciences work in accordance with the frame-work of Logic. The chief aim and objective of Logic is to distinguish correct reasoning from the incorrect one. However, “Thinking is made of perception and logic.” and “Logic is the beginning of wisdom, not the end.”
Scientific theories presented to us from time to time have, at times, played fast and loose with our intellectual endeavors. Many incorrect scientific theories have played doctor on us by hoaxing our comprehension. Even if a single incorrect scientific theory survives for some time, no matter howsoever small the time is, it is enough proof that our distinguishing capabilities are not trustworthy. “Fleischmann and Pons’s Cold Fusion Theory”; “Einstein’s Static Universe Theory”; “Phrenology Theory”; “The Blank Slate Theory”; “Luminiferous Aether Theory”; “The Martian Canals Theory”; “Phlogiston Theory”; “The Expanding Earth Theory”; “Spontaneous Generation Theory”; “The Discovery of Vulcan” are some of many of such theories that have come Yorkshire over us.
A famous Austrian Mathematician cum Logician, Kurt Gödel (1906-1978) gave in 1931 a mind-baffling and faith-shaking theorem-couplet that shook the faith of many a staunch rationalist. A pair of propositions called “The Incompleteness Theorems of Gödel” changed the way rationalistic sciences were viewed. Godel’s first theorem that “A finite consistent formal system is incomplete.” in non-technical terms means that “Truth is not always provable.” Godel’s second theorem states that “The proof of the consistency of a finite formal system lies outside the system.” which in non-technical terms means that “A logical system (e.g. Mathematics etc.) can’t give its own justification in terms of proof from the same system?” Thus, Science fell a prey to its own foundational framework viz Logic.
The Quran (The last revelation of Allah SWT), has inspired many and has always stood the test of time. The Verses of the Quran have flourished and preserved their freshness at all times. The Quran revealed more than fourteen centuries ago has played the first fiddle to Science thereby becoming a system superior to the latter. Thus, the Quran has the power to dictate terms to scientific theories (Implication of Godel’s 2nd Theorem too).
Quranic verses revealing the otherwise concealed facts of the universe and creation possess austere grandeur. The following verses of the Quran swimmingly point out the sublimity and divinity of the Quran. It took human comprehension a reasonable amount of time to find out these facts.
“Does man think We cannot assemble his bones? Yes . . . We are able to put together in perfect order the very tip of his fingers.” (75:3-4)
“Glory be to Allah, Who created in pairs all things that the earth produces, as well as their own (human) kind, and other things of which they have no knowledge.” (36:36)
“Verily He is the One Who has joined the two seas: this is palatable and sweet, and this is salty and bitter. And He made a barrier between the two of them, and a partition that is forbidden to be passed”. (25:53)
“It is not permitted to the Sun to catch up with the Moon, nor does the night outstrip the Day. Each floats in an orbit.” (36:40)
“And verily for you in the cattle there is an instructive sign (lesson). We give you to drink of that which is in their bellies from between excretions and blood, pure milk palatable to the drinkers.” (16:66)
“Or as darkness in a vast, deep sea, there it covers waves, from above which are waves, from above which are clouds. Darkness on top of each other. If a man stretches out his hand, he can hardly see it. And whoever Allah does not make light for him, for him there is no light.” (24:40)
“And We sent down Iron, in which is severe strength and benefits for mankind. Verily in this is a sign for people who reflect.” (57:25)
“We made from water every living thing.” (21:30)
“Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, and the mountains as pegs?” (78:6-7)
Evidently, the time is high and the Call is clear. It is time to make “the Quran” and not “Science” the yardstick of our speculations and comprehension. It is time that we submit ourselves to the will of Allah (SWT).
