Smoking causes cancer Cigarette companies want to reduce the age from which people can smoke to 12 years old Governments believe that only adults should be allowed to smoke Choose which position you most agree with and discuss why you chose that positio

Youth tobacco usage is prevalent over the world. Or teenage smoking is an epidemic around the world. The tobacco industry wants to lower the legal smoking age to 12 years old, while governments have the opinion that smoking should only be permitted for adults. I firmly agree with governments’ polices and believe that only adults should be permitted to smoke.
_To commence with, the clear scientific evidence demonstrates that smoking is a highly hazardous and addictive in nature that can result in severe health issues, particularly for young individuals. A lifetime of health issues and a lower quality of life could result from allowing people to start smoking as young as 12 years old. This would increase the number of young people who are exposed to tobacco smoke’s damaging effects.
_Additionally, the sale and use of tobacco products is regulated by government to protect public health. Allowing individuals as young as 12 years old to purchase and consume tobacco products would be exposing a vulnerable population to a dangerous substance and potentially endangering their health. This is not a responsible or acceptable outcome, and it is essential that governments maintain their commitment to protecting the health or their citizens.
_Moreover, allowing 12 years old individuals to smoke would also have wider social and economic implications. Research has shown that people who start smoking at a young age are more likely to become long-term smokers, leading to significant financial costs as well as reduced productivity.
_In conclusion, the proposal to reduce the minimum age for purchasing and using tobacco products to 12 years old is not in the best interest of public health and should not be considered as a viable option.
