Learning continues throughout one's life. We need to learn different things for improving our personal and professional life. The most important phase of learning is when we are students as it shapes our personality and career. But only handful of them are able to make a successful life for themselves. The major cause of this is that this group doesn't just memorize facts but dig harder into concepts and theories so that they could apply them in real world. Hence I agree that understanding concepts and ideas is definitely more important than learning facts.
