TOEFL essay: Spend money on house or on business.

A house of one's own is everybody's dream, but only a few dream about a business of their own. In my opinion a good business can get you a house of your own. So it would be a better idea to buy a business if you can.

I would start with some points against buying a house. Once you buy a house of your own, you will have to maintain it to keep it in good condition. Maintenance is not a one day affair, you will have to work throughout life to pay for maintenance costs or at least, have to have a good bank balance. A house will not get you a job. You still have to work hard for other necessities. You will still be working for somebody else and sometimes against your will.

As compared to buying a house, if you buy a business, it will get you work as well as money. I will elaborate on these two aspects. A business of your own will get you a work of your choice. You will have to work hard just like your regular job, but you can enjoy the freedom of working according to your will. You would not be bound by any obligations and can take a break whenever you want. A business is like a child, you feel happy when you see it growing. A business of your own will not only bring joy of work but also bring you profit. Provided you have a good knowledge of the business, you can make a very good profit. The money so earned will not only help you in sustaining your present life, but will also ensure a good future. With the money so earned you can fulfill the rest of your dreams, one of which happens to be owning a house of your own. So if you work hard and do good in your business you can buy your own house.

To summarize buying a house of one's own is a good idea, however using the same money to do a good business is better in long run.
