The bar chart below shows the proportions of English men and women of different ages who were living alone in 2011. The pie chart compares the numbers of bedrooms in these one-person households.

The two graphs depict independent living status in England, 2011. While the horizontal bar chart illustrates information sorted by age and gender, the pie chart shows information about the number of bedrooms in individual households.

Overall, females constituted a slightly higher proportion of people who live alone than males. We can also see the most common number of the bedroom was two (35,4/5)

Regarding age and gender, the significant majority of males live independently in the 16-49 age groups and reach a peak at about 65%. However, the figures were equalized in the 50-64 age group and the pattern is reversed proportionately in the older age groups. There were more women who have independent life than men as they get older.

In the same year, the two-bedrooms proportion in single-occupant households accounted for over one-third, while one-bedroom and three bedrooms made up exactly 28% and just under 30% of the total, respectively. Under 7% of individual households had four bedrooms or more.
