The pie chart below shows the main reasons why agricultural land becomes less productive. The table shows how these causes affected three regions of the world during the 1990s.

The Pie chart below depicts the causes for the less production of agricultural land. While, the table demonstrates the reasons for degradation in the North America, Europe, and Oceania during the 1990s. Over-grazing was the top most cause of land degradation worldwide and the Europe had maximum degraded land among the three.
Over-gazing caused greater than one-third of the total land degradation globally. It was followed by deforestation, over cultivation and other causes with a percentage of 30, 28 and seven respectively. However, among the three given areas, the Europe had the highest non-productive land of 23%, The main contribution to this was from deforestation. The Oceania was second, with the uncultivated land of 13%, however, the main reason for it was the same as the cause for worldwide degradation. Opposite to these, the North-America had the highest productive land with a degraded land of only five percent, which was almost totally caused by over-cultivation.
To sum up, over-cultivation was dominant cause for global land degradation. However, the major reasons in various region of the globe were different.
