The percentages in some household types in Canada between 1984 and 2020 is illustrated in the table.

Overall, Canadian have a tendency to live with their spouse with their dependent children, while single becomes the lowest number.

Initially, Canadian couple with dependent children becomes the majority at 52% in 1984. Although it was gradually decreased, but it is still in the top at 36% in the end of period, while lone parent showed the reverse, it was the minority at 4% in 1984, even it was constantly increased, however it is still the lowest position at twelve percent in 2020.

For, Canadian who prefer to live alone, it was the minority but not the least in 1984 accounted for 6%. However, it was gradually increase until reach its peak at 12% in 2014 and it is still in the same percentage in the end of period. Compared to couple with non-dependent children, it was increased once in 2004 at 11% and hit the lowest position at 9 from 2014 until the end of period.
