You recently received a letter from a friend asking for advice about whether to go to college or to try to get a job. You think she/he should get a job.

Write a letter to this friend. In your letter

1. say why he/she would not enjoy going to college

2. explain why getting a job is a good idea for him/her

3. suggest types of job that would be suitable for him/her

Dear Dave,

Trust you are doing great. I just received your post via Fedex. From your mail, I understand you are confused between taking up a course on carpentry at a local community college versus taking an apprenticeship at Mr Woody Store in your town.

Knowing your interest in wood carving and furniture making, I believe, instead of wasting crucial time pursuing vocational courses at the college you could start interning at the furniture store. Working in the carpentry section of the shop floor will give you a practical experience on how a wooden log is converted into unique and marvellous pieces of home accessories. Since the shop is located in your town, you will save time and money travelling for learning these new skills. This option will also help your family to ease the financial burden. You can try working as a Carpenter and get hands on experience in the field or even can consider working as a Salesman trying to gauge new furniture trends in the market.

Do let me know on what you decide. I am sure you will make an appropriate decision. Give my love to Aunt Rachel.

Best regards,

Lee
