The given bar chart illustrates how the UK workforce was distributed by 5 main industries, namely manufacturing, services, agriculture/fishing, construction and energy/water in 1841 and 2011. The most salient feature is that In both years, the service and manufacturing industry dominated the UK job market. While there was a decline in the percentage of employment in most sectors, the opposite trend was seen in services and construction. In the middle of the 19th century, approximately a third of workers were employed in manufacturing and service, followed closely by agriculture with 22%. In contrast, the industry of construction and energy had the least manpower with only 5% and 3% respectively.
In the early decade of the 21st century, much of the workforce shifted to the service sector, experiencing a 2.5 fold increase, to be exact. On the other hand, agriculture and fishing underwent a significant drop by 2011, from over a fifth of the workforce in 1841 to only a mere 9%.
