The charts below show the percentage of water used for different purposes in six areas of the world.
The bar charts illustrate the use of water for various purposes, including industry, agriculture and domestics. The data is collected in six regions, namely North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Central Asia and South East Asia.
Overall, most areas tend to utilize water for agricultural purpose, except North America and Europe, where water is primarily used for industrial manufacture.
It is recognizable that the developing areas, featuring Central Asia, Africa, South East Asia and South America utilize a huge amount of water, with Central Asia taking the lead position. Specifically, 88%, 84%, 81% and 71% of water are consumed for agriculture at those areas respectively. In contrast, while South America consumes 19% of water for industry, the other three areas only spend a small percentage of water (under 10%) in that sector.
Despite the patterns of water consumption in developing areas, North America and Europe show an opposite trend. Around half of the amount of water consumption at these regions are used for industry, while agricultures at the aforementioned regions account for 39% and 32% of the water consumption, respectively.
With the given data, water consumption at household level in six areas is left with a minor proportion.
In sum, there is a different in the pattern of water used in the developing and developed areas. The amount of water spend on a particular sector depends on the economic development of that areas.
