Learning English
Today, with the development of modern technology in the 4th industrial revolution, learning English has been a polarizing topic. From my perspective, acquiring new language skills can bring lots of benefits for people. In this essay, I am going to explain my strengths and difficulties when I learn English.
On the one hand, personally, there are many reasons why English is suitable for me to study. First and foremost, I think learning English is amazing and exciting. I have been getting access to English for over 10 years so I have a huge fancy for English. In addition, I have the ability to self-study, which is useful for learning new languages, particularly English. For example, my hobbies are watching movies with English subtitles, listening to US-UK music, podcasts and so on. When I watch films and movies, I usually shadow the characters’ dialogues and sometimes, I write those down on my note. Moreover, I am also keen on dipping into English books and magazines, which allows me to understand thoroughly more about English. Another strength is that I find myself being confident when speaking English in front of the crowd. These strengths not only make me feel comfortable and not be scared when learning English, but they also enhance my motivation when absorbing new knowledge about languages.
However, despite the aforementioned strengths, I face several difficulties when I want to learn English. The key challenge is the lack of an appropriate environment for me to use and practice my English. As a matter of fact, in some Asian nations, English is not popular enough to be commonly used in daily conversation. Thus, I find it very hard to use English frequently. Another major difficulty is that English itself has complex grammar structures, which makes it hard for learners to write and speak correctly. Specifically, a variety of lexical rules and exceptions discourage me from studying English. Therefore, I feel overwhelmed when I want to continue my English learning process.
In conclusion, despite undeniable challenges of learning English, I am convinced that English still has an integral role to play in modern society.
