Besides, this also leads to rapid removal of nutrients required for the growth of future generation of trees.
Secondly, author posits that decaying woods are the habitat of spruce bark beetle which would damage healthy spruce trees. Eventually insect infestation can damage the health of trees.The lecturer rebuts this by arguing that beetles survived thousand years back without posing any damage to these trees. Moreover, birds feed on these insects resulting in long term benefits. Salvage logging is more harmful than these insects.
Finally, author contends that salvage logging has economic benefits by providing woods to many industries depending on it. Additionally, this process gives jobs to many more workers and increases jobs for local residents too. The lecturer contradicts this by asserting that severe forest fires requires helicopter to transport wood which is expensive. Furthermore, she argues that even though jobs are created they are just temporary and is offered to outsiders rather than local residents.
