The bar chart below shows the percentage of Australian men and women in different age groups who did regular physical activity in 2010
The bar chart illustrates the proportion of Australian males and females engaging in regular physical activity in 2010 according to their age group.
In general, it can be seen that while physical exercise was more popular among women in most age groups, there was an exception for those aged between 15 and 24. Also, for elders from 65 years of age, it seems the statistical difference between men and women was not as significant as in other age groups.
In details, from 25 to 64, women seemed to be more engaging in physical activity with the highest figure belonging to the 45 to 54 age group (53.3%) and the lowest for those aged 25 to 34 (almost 49%). On the contrary, the figures for men were notably smaller, with 45.1% in 55 to 64 being the highest while only 39.5 percent of men aged 35 to 44 did physical exercise.
The gap, however, was significantly narrowed down for seniors older than 65 as around 47% of both genders did physical activity. The exception from the general trend was the youngest age group. Up to 52.8% of males were reported doing physical activity in contrast to 47.7% of their female counterparts.
