The given pie charts are portraying the percentage of British students in an English university able to talk in another language in 2000 and 2010.
The charts indicate a considerable drop from 20% to 10% in the percentage of monolingual students over this period. Furthermore, in both years, Spanish was the most spoken language among English students and it experienced an increase of 5% over this period and reached 35% in 2010. French was the next most popular foreign language in 2000 with a share of 15% however, in 2010 both German and French language were favored by 10% of the students. Multilingual English students share also rose from 10% to 15% in 10 years. French, Spanish, and German language aside, about 10% of English students were in favor of other languages which went up to 15% at the end of the period.
In brief, the charts highlight that respectively only 20% and 10% of the students in these two years were not able to speak in another language than English. In addition, the portion of students interested in particular languages underwent a change except for the German language which in both years were spoken by 10% of the students.
