The table compares the differences of household expenditure spending for four purposes in five selected European countries in 2012.
It is immediately apparent that Food & drink and housing was two main items in which people spent their income. While much less money was spent on clothing and entertainment.
In Turkey and Spain, the highest category was Food & drink, which represented for around one third of the total household expenditure, at 37% and 31%, respectively. Then followed by hosing, both two countries spent about one fifth budget on this. Similarly, the figure of Turkey (20%) was slightly larger than that of Spain (18%). In contrast, the rest three countries showed a reverse pattern, which spent most in hosing. UK saw a largest proportion for more than one third (37%) in hosing, unremarkably higher than France and Germany, whose figure around one third, at 33% and 31% respectively. The relatively lower percentage can be seen in Food & drink, reaching approximate one fourth.
Clothing and Entertainment saw a significant lower proportion in all the countries. The largest consumption in Entertainment can be seen in Germany, around one fifth, at 19%. Followed by Spain and France, at about 15%. UK and Turkey were in a bottom position, just over 10%. Germany, UK and Turkey spent more than 10% on clothing while, the figure in France and Spain were lower.
