image of Jane Austen
The reading and listening discussing the portrait of the Jane Austen, who is one the most famous English novelists. The article states that the image found was of teenager Jane Austen. The author provides three reasons for support. However, the speaker mentions that the claims made in the reading are not convincing and refutes each of the author's reason.
Firstly, the speaker mentions that in Austen's extended family no one has seen in actual Jane Austen. She explains that Austen died after seventy years, no one in her family member can totally identify her. So if any family member of her endorsed that the subject is Jane Austen is wrong. This challenges the point made in the reading that the Austen family itself has endorsed the claim that the girl in the portrait is Jane Austen.
Secondly, the lecturer adds that the teenage in the image resembles exactly to the Jane Austen is also not true. She elaborates this as she says that Jans Austen lives in a big family, so maybe she has teenager female cousins. All they look like Jane Austen. Or even her niece looks like Jane Austen. Moreover, the image made by her sister Cassandra maybe she resembles her. This refutes the point mentions in the reading that the face of the image resembles the Jane Austen.
Finally, the speaker mentions that the image made on the canvas, in which the back side of it there is a stamp of black canvas. This black canvas sold by William lag, and when they asked him, he says he did not sell canvas in England. And when his canvas sold in the England Jane Austen become twenty-seven years old. So, when the image been made at that time Austen is twenty-seven years old. This rejects the assertion made in the article that this image has a style of famous Ozias Humphrey and also that image made by him.
In conclusion, the reading and listening are totally opposing each other.
