The author states that the reading of novel and so literature is declined nowadays and explains some negative effects of reading less. However, the lecturer casts doubt on the points by saying that reading novels doesn't mean that reading of literature is declined and also it doesnot include that much bad effects.
First, the author says that novels intelletually stimulate the readers mind. However, the professor says novels are not the only tools to intellectually stimulate readers mind. Other geners of books like science and political books are high quality material which can intellectually stimulate the reader's mind.
Second, the author claims that watching TV and music video and reading web page chave lead to decrease in culture. However, the professor refutes it by asserting that novels and poems are not only avaiable cultural resources. There are lots of great cultural materias nowadays, such as great songs and movies which very valuble cultural contents. Also, she adds that the meaning of culture is changed. And the materials can have permanently effects on the audiences.
Third, the reading passage explains that there are many talented writters and reading less is regrettable. However, the speaker claims that we should not blame readers but writers of novels. Because novels are very difficult to understand these days.
