The lecture and reading both discus the little age and it's reason. While reading states that it might be cause because of the oceanic current changes, volcanic eruptions and due to increasing in the forest, the lecture refutes these by claiming that ice age did not occur in southern part, there evidence for volcanic ash-large scale and there were no enough long time to causes the global cooling.
First of all, the reading claims that it might happened because oceanic current changes which occur in gulf of mexico in the past which might drop the temperature and eventually became little ice age from inter-glacial period. However, the professor opposes this view by saying that it did not happen in southern part earth like South Africa and Newzesland. It happened only on the north part of earth, so, this causing some doubt first theory.
In addition, reading suggests that it could be because of volcanic eruptions because dust and sulphur in clouds leads to block the sunlight which in long term enough to make little ice-age, due to prolong droping of temperature in the atmosphere. Lecturer counter this point with some ideas-if, there were eruptions occurred, then there must visual striking on the sky like rainbow, but, there was report presented regarding that events.
Finally, passage states that growing forest during that might be caused the little ice-age, those period- war, disease and socio-political conflicts led the population very less and need for farmland became smaller in size, so, they might grew the forest, that, indeed reduce the global temperature by absorbing more co2 from atmosphere. Thus, earth became little ice age. The speaker refuses this view by explaining that to do it takes more than thousands of year, that's not happend at all. Moreover, the population became previous status very quickly.
