Reading mentions several hypothesis which elaborate causes of yellow cedar declination in USA since a century. However, lecturer refused all claims made in the article.
First of all, the author of reading suggests cedar bark beetle which is parasite play significant role in declination of cedar tree. Cedar bark beetle attack cedar trees, the beetle larvae eat the wood. So, bark beetle is good nominate for cedar tree's reduction. On the other hand, professor claims bark beetle is responsible for cedar tree declination. He argues, yellow cedar trees has chemical materials on leafs which has adverse effect on beetle bark body. If beetle eat cedar tree's leaf they will die.
Second, writer suggests declination also attribute to brown bears. Bears claims at the cedar in order to eat tree bark, which has excessive sugar. Bears aggressive feeding behavior may weaken trees to be responsible for tree decline. On contrary, lecturer casts doubt on this point. He says, Bears can not be encounter as the cause of tree decline. Furthermore, he mentioned cedar trees declination not only happened in specific area, it crossed both main land and ire land, which main land is not the living place for bears.
Finally, article suggests changes of climate may also involved in declination of cedar trees. When climate become appear cold, roots of cedar trees may be frozen, which has effects on elimination of growth sense in trees. Root surface growing in winter rather in spring. Wheres, speaker said frozen roots should damage all tress. He puts forth, cold climate will increase the rates of declination for all natural trees, why so only happened for cedar trees.
