It is more important for students to understand ideas and concepts than it is for them to learn facts.
The education is the key to have a success in career of the modern world. I believe that it is more important for students to understand ideas and concepts. In this way they can possess knowledge more effective than to learn facts. Below I am introducing the reasons for support my opinion.
First of all, when students can understand ideas and concepts, it will be clear for them to continue and learn facts. I think that facts are details of subject or topic, while ideas and concepts are corns of them. If students understand the main idea, this can make topic interesting and so students will be motivated to continue and to learn whole subject. For example recently in my physics class the lecturer has explained what the nuclear reaction is in general and it has become for me interesting. After the lecture I have searched the topic in the internet and find a lot of explanations, examples and facts related to subject.
Secondly, I think that one of the best ways for study is discussion of subject by students and that is why students need to understand concepts. For example in my programming class our lecturer explains the idea of theme, after that he assigns students to discuss and find the formulas. This makes communication and cooperation between students, and so the classes become more interactive. Through understanding the ideas students can find that facts by ourselves.
Finally, students have to understand ideas and concepts, because this will give them chance to choose their future profession. In undergraduate years students learn many subjects, and in my opinion it is impossible to learn facts and details for all subjects. However when students understand the idea of subject they can decide which item becomes more interesting for choosing profession, then to learn other needed details.
In conclusion I think that facts depend on main idea, so the best way to study and to possess of knowledge is to understand ideas and concepts.
