WRITING TASK 2
You should spend about 40 minutes on this task.
Write about the following topic:
Many people believe that modern technology has brought people together, but others believe that technology has driven people apart.
Discuss both these viewpoints and give your own opinion.
You should write at least 250 words.
With the advancement of technology, we are able to enjoy the benefits of staying close with one another. However, some people also notice that technology has driven people apart.
We do agree that some people nowadays do not communicate directly, but instead through social media, like facebook, tweeter or whatsapp. For instant, when a group of friends meet up, instead of talking to each other, some may be updating their status in facebook and some may be busy taking pictures to upload on to instagram. Besides that, a similar situation may happen at home too. A child may skip his or her dinner with family in order to continue playing online games in the room, and prefers to eat his or her dinner later at midnight. These activities, in a long run, will disrupt family and friends relationship and they may feel distant, although they are physically near to each other.
Nevertheless, on the bright side, people can keep in touch with one another even if we are far apart. One common example, students who are studying overseas are able to keep in touch via skype or oovoo with their close ones at their home town. Their love ones are just a phone call away. Besides, we can now work from home through videoconference or via internet. In addition, news travels very fast. For instance, if disaster happens in one country, the other countries can send aids within hours or a day.
In conclusion, technology has brought people together. However, it may become harmful if used inappropriately. Therefore, in my opinion, the innovation of technology is more of a blessing and convenience than a disadvantage.
