Overall, it is clear that causes of land degradation are caused more or less the same. Furthermore European land is the most degraded by all causes with the exception for over-grazing, moreover, Europe has the largest proportion of land damaged.
In terms of worldwide causes of land degradation, the highest proportion (35%) is caused by over-grazing, deforestation and over-cultivation followed with almost the same percentage (30 and 28 per cent respectively). Other causes are represented by only 7%.
As for specific regions, Europe has the largest proportion of land degraded than any other country, with 23%, its almost two times more than Oceania (13%) and nearly five times more than in North America (5%). Deforestation and over-cultivation shows the highest numbers also in Europe (9.8% and 7.7% accordingly). From the other hadn’t the lowest proportion of land degraded by deforestation is in America (0.2%), while, interestingly, over-cultivation does not cause any harm in Oceania. From the other hand, in Oceania, 11.3% of land is degraded by over-grazing, while in North America and Europe this phenomenon is seen significantly less (1.5% and 5.55 respectively).
