Both the reading and the lecture try to discuse about the Roman navy attacked the Greek port city of Syracuse which is defended themselves with an ingenious weapon called a burning mirror. Although the reading states that it never really built, the lecture mentiones that it is possible that it was built.
At first, the reading declares that, the ancient Greeks had basic in technology so they could not built such a divice. On the other hand the lecture atates that they had formal large cooper so they could built it.
Second, the reading presents that the ship was built with wood. So the burning mirror would have take long time to burn. Consequently it is not possible concept. The lecture, however, claimes that, the ship was built by water proof peach in addition wood. the peach burn in a second. Thus it could go on fire quikly.
Finaly, although the reading states that burning mirror does not seem like an inprovement on a wapon that Greeks already had so it had no reason to bult a wapon like burning mirror, the lecture mentiones that they are familier with wapones and they see just the mirrore.
