The reading and lecture both discuss the challenges of Mars trip. While the reading provides three limitations of this trip, the professor refutes, saying none of these claims are convincing and he provides three solutions.
Firstly, the reading avers that there is no enough capacity to bring all the essentials elements into Mars like food and oxygen. On the other hand, the professor argues this notion saying that they can use hydroponic technique. So, they can grow plants in water in very limited space. As a result, they get get their food supply. Moreover, they can get the recycle water from this hydroponic technique as a drinking water. Furthermore, the plants take the carbon dioxide and these plants release oxygen. So, they can get oxygen to breath on Mars surface.
In addition, the article mentions that they can not spent long time on negative gravity on Mars. This is because this negative gravity affect the bones density. However, the professor questions this idea by pointing out that there was a lot of space trips before and they could stand for many months in negative gravity. Moreover, they can select several techniques to avoid that. For instance, they can practice exercises and they can take vitamins and calcium to decrease the deterioration in bone density.
Finally, The reading states that there was a harmful radiations on Mars. So, they cannot stand over there. Nevertheless, the professor contradicts this idea by explaining that these radiations on Mars are not dangerous all time. In fact, they can take tools with them as a protection from these radiations. For example, they can take light equipment like sheilds . Moreover, at the time of harmful radiations they can get under theses sheilds. So, they can get protected from any bad radiations.
