TPO-45 Integrated Writing Task
Some skeptics doubt that the ancient fossil structures which found inside 200-miliion-year-old fossilized trees are created by bees. They support their view with three arguments, while the professor in the listening claims that all three statements are not convincing.
Firstly, the skeptics argue that there are no fossil remains of actual bees have ever been found that date to 200 million years ago. On the contrary, professor refutes the skeptics' argument, saying that no fossil remains doesn't mean bees didn't exist that time. She claims that bees may couldn't be preserved due to the absence of tree resin, a sticky liquid, which served as a preservative for bees.
Secondly, professor admits that it is true that bees have dependent biological relationship with flowering plants. However, bees may feed on other non-flowering plants such as pin trees on 200 million years ago. Only when flowering plant started to appeared on 125 million years ago, then bees gradually adapted to feed on the flowering plants.
Thirdly, the skeptics state that fossil structures found in Arizona lack some of the finer details of bee's nest. On the other hand, professor argues that the chemical material found in the old structures are the same as researches found in the modern bee's nest, proving that the old structures are mode by bees.
