The line graph compares and contrasts the data on the changes in the per capita consumption of beef, pork, broilers and turkey in the United States from 1955 to 2012. It is noticeable that the amount of beef consumption was by far the most popular in four types of meat in almost all years, while the figure for broilers experienced an upward trend throughout the 58-year period, with the figure eventually surpassing those for beef.
Clearly, beef was the most favourite meats in America. To specify, the total quantity of beef consumed rose from about 60 to peak of 90 pounds per person per year in the first 22-year period, but later it declined markedly through the next years to under 60 pounds in 2012. At the same period of time, the figure for pork fluctuated around 50 pounds per person.
The most tricking feature is that the consumption of broilers witnessed a significant growth from just nearly 20 pounds in 1961 before it reached a huge amount of consumption in the last research year, which was approximately three times as high as that in the early year. Moreover, there was no substantial change in the trend for turkey consumption, which was the least common meat consumed by Americans over the period of time.
