Educational institutions have a responsibility to dissuade students from pursuing fields of study in which they are unlikely to succeed.
Regarding the students may waste a large amount of time working in a field that they are unlikely to succeed. The author argues that Educational institutions have a responsibility to dissuade students from pursuing these kind of fields of study. Though it sounds to benefit for students, a closer analysis will find some problems.
Some people may say this idea is well because the students will devote more energy on the field which they are more likely to succeed. However, I really doubt whether these Educational institutions can know every students' characteristics and their abilities. Thus, what are standards could they use to judge a certain students whether he will adopt to a field or not? Possibly, according to the student's performance and scores, they will have a overall judgement, but it does not mean they can know potential abilities of the student. In these point, it's extremely possible that educational institutions will mislead the student. It's not difficult for us to imagine if Einstein did not learn in the field of science according to his teacher who stability think Einstein was too foolish to learn this kind of profound knowledge, he would not succeed.
Others may also opposite my view using a reason that it's bad for the cultivation of Self confident regarding the students who pursing fields of study in which they are unlikely to succeed are surrounded lots of excellent person. However, I argue that there is subtly difference among people, it's not ration to say some people are good at some field while other are poor in this. For everyone, nearly all the abilities re cultivated after birth. For example, in some technique field, the more amount of things you do, you will be more familiar to the work. Striving for a work without thinking a lot whether you can succeed, you will attain endless confident will you succeed.
Besides, i think not everyone pursing a field wanting to succeed, maybe the major reason is working in the field will offer them much more money than other work or they are really like the work ,they just feel happy and satisfy when they do the things.
In sum, I think it's not ration for educational institutions to do this kind of things, but only they don not have enough abilities, but also have not obligation to do it. Instead, they should improving their teaching abilities.
