The table below gives information on UK acid rain emissions, measured in millions of tonnes from four different sectors between 1990 and 2007.
The line graph illustrates the amount of acid rain emitted by four sectors in Britain during a 17-year-period between 1991 and 2007.
Overall, it is clear that the number of acid rain emissions dropped significantly throughout the period surveyed. Moreover, other industries emitted the largest amount of rain, while domestic use produced the lowest. Units are measured in millions of tonnes.
In 1990, there were approximately 3.3 million tonnes of acid rain created by electricity, gas and water supply. The transport and communication produced around 0.6 million tonnes and was followed by domestic use, which emitted nearly 0.5 million tonnes of acid rain. Other industries contributed just about 2 million tonnes of acid rain.
In 2007, the amount of acid rain produced by electricity, gas and water supply witnessed a sudden downward trend of 2.8 million tonnes and stood at exactly 0.5. Meanwhile, the emissions from domestic use and other industries also dropped gradually to around 0.2 and 1.2 million tonnes respectively. However, the figure for acid rain emitted from transport and communication saw a slight increase and reached a high peak of 1 million tonnes in 2005 before falling to nearly 1.2 in the end.
