Nature's Way, a chain of stores selling health food and other health-related products, is opening its next franchise in the town of Plainsville. The store should prove to be very successful: Nature's Way franchises tend to be most profitable in areas where residents lead healthy lives, and clearly Plainsville is such an area. Plainsville merchants report that sales of running shoes and exercise clothing are at all-time highs. The local health club has more members than ever, and the weight training and aerobics classes are always full. Finally, Plainsville's schoolchildren represent a new generation of potential customers: these schoolchildren are required to participate in a fitness-for-life program, which emphasizes the benefits of regular exercise at an early age.
Write a response in which you examine the stated and/or unstated assumptions of the argument. Be sure to explain how the argument depends on these assumptions and what the implications are for the argument if the assumptions prove unwarranted.
In the given argument author inform that a franchise of large health food and health-related products is opening it's business in Plainsville. Author assume that , this opening will led to a success for the brand chain and he provides subsequent argument to prove his satement. However there are some assumptions which led significant drawback . They are listed below-
Firstly or most important is that , there is no reason to assume that the franchise will do very good business. It may possible that there are other health care products available in that area with cheap price than Nature's way. Author has not given any indication of exsistence of other health care related brand at Plainsville.
Natures way may tend to profitable in other areas but that is not sufficient reason to assume that it would be successful in Plainsville also. Next the author gives the fact that residents of that place seem more aware about healthcare and gives certain example. But they also look out of the context about the assumption of good business of Natures' way i.e. like running shoe and exercise cloathing is nothing to do with health related food. And full membership of local health club only signifies that residents are more health concious. That does not prove that they will buy product from that franchise.
Lastly the fact that children of Plainsville are aware about fitness is correct but again it does not seem any correlation with Nature's way. The author wrongly assumes that children will buy their product from that particular franchise of health care products.
Health awareness of Plainsville may attract Nature's way to open a shop there. But author's assumption is not correct as it is not possible to predict about business due to oscillatory nature.
