Household expenditure(% of total income)
The table illustrates a survey about how households allocate their total income between Housing, Food and drink, Clothing, Transport, and Recreation in Europe and America.
Overall, not only do Europeans spend more their income on Housing, Clothing, and Transport today than America, but also was the case in 1970. Additionally, both Europeans and Americans give the maximum their revenue on Housing in the year 1970 and today, while other categories were comparatively lower.
In the survey, European household spent nearly 22% of their income on Housing then the percentage dropping by 5% today, so it was clearly the maximum expense during the period of survey time. In Europe, the proportion of Food and drink(12%) and Recreation(10%) experienced decrease to 8% and 9% today, while the fraction of Transport grew dramatically from 8% in 1970 to 12% today.
By contrast, Americans spent less 7% of their income on Housing in 1970, but it used less 1% of their revenue today than did Europeans. However, Americans kept the same level of consumption in Food and drink(15%), Transport(7%), and Recreation(13%) throughout the survey time.
Additionally, both Americans and Europeans spent less than 5% of their income respectively on Clothing.
