The pie chart illustrates what the households allocated their food expenditure, while the line chart shows how people choose fastfood and sitdown restaurant meals separately during the survey time between 1970 to 2000.

Overall, while the percentage of the home cooking decreased significantly, the proportion of restaurant meals increased dramatically. The line figure saw the number of meals per year(NMPY) experienced increases in both fastfood meals and sitdown restaurant meals during the whole survey period.

In the survey, nearly 90% of the food budget spent on home cooking in 1970, so it was clearly to play a dominant part in the food expense. However, the figure declined sharply, dropping to 50% in 2000. At the same time, the percentage of food expense spent on restaurant meals grew steadily from 10% in 1970 to 35% in 1990, eventually sharing the same figure(half a percent) with the home cooking.

In addition, in 1970, it was clearly to say that both the NMPY of fastfood and the NMPY of sitdown restaurant was same(about 20), but the NMPY of fastfood grew exponetially to approximately 85 in 2000. This figure was nearly 45 larger than the NMPY of sitdown restaurant meals, even though the NMPY of sitdown reastaurant meals(nearly 35) overtook the other pattern(about 29) at 1980.
