TOPIC# 20 IT IS BETTER FOR CHILDREN TO GROW UP IN THE COUNTRYSIDE THAN IN A BIG CITY. DO YOU AGREE OR DISAGREE?

In this modern world, this question just can have one answer. Rural lifestyle is very peaceful and healthy, however to keep up with the progressing society demands living in a big city. In my opinion, it is better for children to grow up in large cities for two main reasons. First, urban lifestyle offers more varied amenities. Second, it provides many prospects for their future.

One important point is that countryside lacks many rudimentary facilities that a big city has. Children growing up in metropolises, benefit from well-equipped classrooms, up-to-date libraries, and many educational classes in different fields such as music, arts, and sports. They have access to the Internet which is one of today’s necessities. Moreover, urban lifestyle provides them with a lot of entertainment complexes, art exhibitions, and other cultural events that they can enjoy them at their spare times, and get to know their interests. For example, a child who lives in the countryside might easily get bored at the weekend, or a child that never has experienced watching a ballet performance might never notice his talent in ballet.

Second, big cities have many prospects giving numerous choices to children when they are all grown up. Unfortunately, in the countryside, juveniles might not go on to higher education since there are no colleges or universities there, they have to either give up on their dreams or abandon their family in order to improve their life. Furthermore, in big cities, they can opt for their professions according to their interests, and apply for many available job opportunities, while in the countryside children might have to follow their family vocation. For instance, many of my university friends who were grown up in the rural areas, in order to prosper in their desired field, migrated to big cities, and, now, they live away from their family.

To sum it up, living in big cities has many advantages for children and their future. I feel this way because in urban areas there are many educational and entertainment facilities, and later in their life, they will have many job choices to pick from them. Although, I do not disagree that urban lifestyle has brought on many health and family problems for children, too.
