The bar chart illustrates the typical amount of money spent every month on utility bills, transport, rent, entertainment and groceries by households in Britain in 3 years (1990, 2000 and 2010). Units are measured in pounds sterling.
Overall, there was an upward trend in utility bills, transport, rent and groceries but expenditure of entertainment slightly dropped. The British spent most money on rent. However, they spent least in utility bills (1990 and 2000) and entertainment (2010).
In term of utility bills, transport and rent, there was a significant change in 3 years. The average monthly expenditure by utility bills started at the lowest which was just about 80 pounds increasing marginally to slightly below 100 pounds before surge to 150 pounds. With transport, the year 2000 saw a jump by 40 pounds from 180 pounds to approximately 220 pounds and then it negibably rose by about 10 pounds. British people spent most money on rent and they spent more and more in these 3 years. It started at 450 pounds going up to dramatically over 500 pounds before reaching at the peak at 600 pounds.
On the other hand, the expenditure of entertainment and groceries did not change to much. In term of entertainment after money spent stood in stability in over 100 pounds in 1990 and 2000, it little bit went down to 100 pounds. In contrast, money spent on groceries grown slightly from about 310 pounds to 320 pounds and then it stabilized in that number in the 2 years (2000 and 2010).
