The reading and the passage are both contradicting with each other, in terms of cloud seeding method and its effects on the hail. The author of the reading states that researchers have found cloud seeding is a successful method in reducing hail in which they have tried using sodium iodide on cloud in order to form snow from hail. However, the lecturer casts doubt about the claim mentioned in the article and refutes all the theories about cloud seeding presented in the passage.
First of all, according to the reading laboratory experiment was effective. When scientists have tried to added sodium iodide into cold water, the light snow formed instead of hail which would in support of the theory of cloud seeding. On the contrary, the speaker negates all the arguments presented in the passage. Furthermore, he added that since iodine prevents all type of precipitation, that might create a risk of drought in farmland if cloud seeding would have used in the area where water is not enough in farmland.
Secondly, the author posits that cloud seeding would be beneficial in the farms at the United States as it has been already tested in the Asia where the method was used to control precipitation in the urban areas. Although The lecturer refutes this by asserting that pollutant particles might get interact with clouds and chemicals in some polluted Asian countries. However, it may not work similarly in the unpolluted farmland in the United States.
Finally, it is mentioned in the article that local studies have found reducing hail damage in present days compared to the early days. On the other hand, the speaker states that the whole region was found with reducing damage by hail. Thus, it was not necessarily the effect of cloud seeding method.
